Our club was established in 1989 and has grown to be not only a home to high quality baseball development and performance, but a home for families and has become a community within its own right.

Baseball is a developing sport in Australia. Still small in comparison to other “mainstream” sports, but what we have shown is an ability to cater for a broad range of ages and skill sets . MacKillop Baseball club is home to players from age 4 to 71 years.

Our History

MacKillop Baseball Club has a proud history in Penrith dating back to the end of 1989.

MacKillop Baseball Club was founded by John Gately, and a number of parents from Mary MacKillop Primary School in South Penrith (now St. Mary MacKillop Primary). After years of playing and coaching Baseball and Softball, John, his wife Leanne and families including the Billington’s, The Willis Family, The Manuel’s and others established a new club that they could guide and build in their own way, using the same values being taught to their children at Mary MacKillop Primary.

MacKillop Baseball was built as a place to promote and develop the game of baseball, giving all members an opportunity to fulfil their potential.

In 32 years of baseball in Sydney’s Greater West, MacKillop has been home to more than 1500 players.

In the 2020/21 Seasons MacKillop hosted :

  • 10 Juniors Baseball Teams
  • 1 Softball Team
  • 10 Senior Baseball Teams

MacKillop Baseball Club has been served by many volunteers over its history with Presidents including our founder John Gately, Ian Willis, Steve Angus, and our current President Josh Gately.

Life Members and Diamond Club

Our club has a Life Member Program and a Diamond Club.

The Diamond Club is for patrons and volunteers who have given time above and beyond the conventional. To help other members of the club beyond their own needs, and have done so over an extended period. Our Diamond Club was established in 2020, and was opened with two members, Sharon Shahoud and David Bird.

Our Life Membership is an exclusive club, with names that are the foundations and corner stones of our club. These people built this club from the ground up and are responsible for the reputation and culture of the club. These Life Members have given years of meritorious service to the club in many facets and worked to ensure a solid and safe future for this club.
